Lovely tarn with a small slate built boathouse at the western end. Access from a public footpaths, either directly from the layby at High Underbarrow, or slightly less.
5/19/2020 · I was introduced to Gurnal Dubs in 2019 when a good friend said to me that it would be a great place to try my first wild swim . He was right. Its a bonny little body of water thats great for a paddle/ swim or to let your dog/s have a cool off.
8/30/2020 · The top right photo was this afternoon at Gurnal Dubs , just under 300m altitude, a leg-punishing run up to it, followed by a 500m ((ish), that was funny my autocorrect wanted to amend that to fish!!) swim and a happy, galumphing dash back down (I neither run nor swim elegantly).

Gurnal Dubs is a popular place for recreational fishing and the licenses are managed by the Kent Angling Association. It is located to the west of Ulgraves. For me, swimming in a swirling dub amidst a remote Lake District fell is the epitome of wild swimming . On our guided swims, it’s the wild swimming in the pools of the Lake District that people love. It’s the kind of swimming you may have done as a child and it is an absolute delight to rediscover it as an adult.
Go through the gate and when the tarn, Gurnal Dubs reservoir, is seen ahead, take a track through the heather on the left, which leads to the tarn. Cross the dam. Do not follow the outfall stream but keep on in the same direction until reaching a stile in a stone wall, which you cross. Potter Tarn can be seen ahead.
